We do have some oscilloscopes and power supplies. Multimeter is on the shopping list, the club have some income, but not nearly enough to get all the bits and bobs needed. We get access to more specialised measurement equipment like spectrumanalyzers and such trough the school, same goes for PCB-production. What we really need is the developing kits to draw more members.

The club will just hold all of the kits, and members are free to use them for personal projects.

There is unfortunatly very few electronic buisnesses around here, couple of old TV-repairmen and such, but i guess if they want to get rid of equipment it`s useless anyway.

	Personally, I can see no reason for either code to fail.

The AVR code is not going to have a problem with such trivial Timer service routines.
You must be using a crystal to achieve 16MHz. And at 9600 baud, you should not get any framing errors.

From the PC point of view, it could occasionally be busy with running other programs. But the oprating system will have plenty of buffering to keep up with RX and TX. I am fairly certain that the power-up default RS232 buffers are 256 bytes. That is a quarter of a second that is safe.

You could read the current COM buffer size. And possibly increase it to say 1k. You could keep track of the high-water level from the PC side.

The AVR is doing absolutely nothing. So I cannot see it ever missing a char. You have no busy-wait loops in ISR()'s.
But you cannot change the state of SPIEN by ISP alone? You can only change it if you had wired things up for either high voltage or JTAG programming. If you haven't done either then you cannot have changed SPIEN. More likely you have changed fuses to expect an external clock. The joy of the STK600 is that you can easily provide this.

I've a issue about avrisp programmer component. I unplugged my programmer after, plugged again but I made a mistake with directions. So, I broke a very little component but I don't know what it is mission. I mean is it capacitor or resistor and which layer may I use(which side is ground) ?

I'm not sure about all these questions. Could you please give a idea or suggestion?

Also, I attached avrisp image and marked component as below;
so any bootloader will work right

Not necessarily. Some have their own supporting .exe that will only run in Windows (though you *might* be able to run it in emulation on a Mac). Your best bet is to pick one that uses a "standard" protocol such as (a) just Intel .hex files sent as text, (b) AVR109/AVR911/AVROSP. The former would work with any serial terminal program, the latter with avrdude and any other program that can do AVR109 protocol. Another protocol it might use is stk500(v2)

	Well, you can make a JTAGICE-1 clone for nothing if you happen to have a mega16 in a STK500. Or any board that has a MAX232 and a RS232 DB9 socket.

But first off, I would make sure that you have the correct ISP pins connected. Then supply a 1MHz clock to the XTAL1 pin of the mega128. And try to ISP with avrdude again.

I presume you have tested your soldering with a multimeter. No shorted pins? Clean looking joints?

Of course you can also think about your "bargain". Is it too good to be true?
